Spangle

Spangles are a bold and honourable breed of Kaiju who found their way to America. Clad in star-covered suits and wearing a signature apple on their chest, Spangles have become symbols of protection in the communities they’ve chosen to live among, stepping in when chaos threatens to tip the balance.

Spangles are fiercely loyal, always ready to defend those who cannot defend themselves. They have a theatrical streak too, often arriving just in time, posing heroically before springing into action. Despite their power, they are approachable, even friendly, earning trust through their actions rather than their size.

Spangle are 5.5" vinyl figures that marked a turning point in the CryptoKaiju collection. It was released through Async Art, a platform I personally loved for its forward-thinking approach to programmable and generative NFTs. Async empowered artists and collectors to explore dynamic, layered artwork well ahead of its time. To celebrate this release, each Spangle came with two NFTs—a generative piece from Async and a second minted directly under the CryptoKaiju contract.

Spangle was also the first Kaiju vinyl to be delivered in new packaging, a custom plastic shell with a foil-printed backing card, created with collectors in mind. The toy itself features a star-patterned Kaiju suit, red gloves and boots, and a bright red apple on its pouch, an emblem of its adopted home.
